MDME practices an approach rooted in the ancient Toaist philosophy of “wu wei.” That is, "wu" meaning "avoid or does not exist" and "wei" meaning "action or purpose." Although there are myriad dynamics of both words, and a true definition of the phrase difficult to ascertain perfectly due to its paradoxical nature, here it is taken as following: a person exhibiting wu wei is able to respond to life so true to self and so true to the demands of any situation that actions are undertaken effortlessly. As the river does not “try” to flow, it carries amazing power. Within the practice of MDME, wu wei is attained through listening, letting go, living, and loving.

Listening
Periods of quieting the mind and non-judgmental observations allow one to view the world without negative emotions. Lives are filled with noise, including constant internal thoughts. Pausing to listen is an invaluable practice in shaping wisdom. Listening to others is also a gateway to authentic empathy and shared knowledge.
Letting Go
Letting go of what the world expects of you, of media images, of negative emotions, of reacting, of self-defeating thoughts is a formidable task; however, this can be practiced and accomplished. When one lets go of stress and calms the mind, clarity becomes the norm and creative energy abounds.
Living
Far from meaning “avoiding action,” wu wei embodies perfect action. Just as the negatively vast emptiness of space can positively be seen as the empowering ether of life, wu wei effects a natural path of action that is effortless because it is simply the truth - your own personal truth within the harmony of the universe. Individuals that live satisfying and rewarding lives see positive growth as a natural, life-long process.
Loving
This should go without saying. But imagine for a moment how much better life would be if we were loved and loving in all that we did. It may sound to good to be true, but consider for a moment adding a little love to everything you do. Just as peace truly does begin with you, so does love. And as you add love, it grows and grows. Love for yourself is healthy and breeds love in the community and in the world. Love what you do what you love!
